I went to see an old fave band of mine Tuesday. Steely Dan was on tour again, labeled The Dan Who Knew Too Much, with Steve Winwood as the opening act. 8)  I saw them live for the first time in 1992 with the New York Rock and Soul Review, then the Two Against Nature tour in '94 when they proved they could indeed "do it again". It's been over 20 years since then (Wow!) and I figured this would be a great bookend to the concert scene. I might not get a another chance too, they are none too young! Fortunately Riverbend was not the sweatbox it usually is in the summer, the crowd was mellow but not Cincinnati-staid, and the guys were having a good time. Great act, with a lot of durability and a timeless style that is decadently beautiful and ever-relevant. Steely Dan does not fit a pattern, they can play more than 1 type of music, and frequently do so. Jazz, blues, FM Top 40 rock, their unique style which is at the meeting point of those three... More of a cool groove than head-thrashing or booty-shaking, although the girls will undoubtedly shake it down to "Peg" or "Josie". :D  Go check the guys out on YouTube, they are nice background while writing or reading or web-surfing.
